Approximately 50 automobiles have been covered with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Cars, walls and postboxes were vandalized, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they stated in a release.
Law enforcement state they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a resident observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish liquid.
The substance had been applied in the shape of a banned symbol, they stated.
Police then discovered numerous other vandalized automobiles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation outlawing the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement report initial examinations show the fluid was likely human blood.
"At present there remains no lead as to its source; officials are presently not cognizant of any injuries in relation with the event," they added.
Municipal representatives said they were trying "to unravel the incident" and have asked to the public for details.
An important political figure commented the vandalism made him without words and needed to be resolved quickly.
"This event hits the center of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the right-wing terrorist attack half a decade ago," he wrote on social media, referring to the murder of nine individuals by a gunman aiming at residents of foreign heritage in five years prior.
